From what age can I put these learning float vests on my baby?

It depends. We recommend starting between 9 and 12 months, but every child is different. Some 9-month-olds already move their legs very well in the water, while others at 15 months may still struggle. It is important to respect the timing and pace of each little one's development.

If they weigh 11 kg but are under 9 months old, can they use the vest?

Important: Do they move their legs well?

We do not recommend using any infant flotation system for children under 9-12 months. You can start using it by adjusting the bottom strap well so the baby can become familiar with it and acquire movements that help with swimming and development. Remember that they must always be held by an adult.

So, what flotation system can babies under 1 year old use?

For babies under 1 year old, it is best to use an adult's arms as the primary flotation system. This is because babies at this age are still developing their motor skills and their ability to adapt to the aquatic environment. The presence of an adult holding the baby in the water will not only provide physical support but also confidence and emotional security. It is important that the adult is attentive at all times and maintains a firm but gentle hold to ensure the baby's protection while they enjoy the water together.

I put the vest on, but they sink, tip to one side, or tip backward?

Don't worry, the vest works; it is normal for them to sink a little at first. The important thing is to be patient. If your little one is already moving their legs and arms, it is likely they will get the hang of it quickly; even so, some kids take minutes, while others take days or weeks. Teach them, encourage them, stay with them... but above all, be patient and enjoy the water with your baby. The learning float vest promotes movement and coordination, but like all development and free movement, it requires time and for us to respect it.

What is the bottom strap of learning float vests for?

It is essential that the swim vest has a properly adjusted bottom strap. Without it, we expose ourselves to a serious risk, and it becomes difficult to acquire the necessary movements to float. The vest can end up being counterproductive, riding up over the child's head.

To ensure safety, it is crucial that the bottom strap is well adjusted. Swim vests have a lined strap to prevent chafing and a tensioner so you can adjust it to the size your little one needs.

How to choose the right size?

There are three pieces of information that will help us choose the correct size, but they are always approximate data that must be evaluated together, as every child has a different body shape even if they are the same age and/or weight.

Age is the first guideline. Always keep in mind that if they are at the age limit, it might be better to choose a larger size.

Weight is another important factor.

The most important piece of information of all is the child's chest circumference. It’s fine if it’s a little loose, but it shouldn't be too big.

Keep in mind that as the child gains more skill in their movements, you will need to remove buoyancy elements, and these will leave more space in the circumference.

What are the 24 buoyancy elements for?

These 'little squares' contain 24 flotation elements. As you can see, they have 8 numbered compartments, and in each of them, there are 3 elements that can be removed progressively as the child gains proficiency in the water.

First, you would remove one element from number 1 on each side, and so on progressively.

Will it cause chafing?

In the case of float vests, the flotation panels are located inside the vest, very well lined with soft neoprene. Both the lining and the seams are extremely soft to the touch to prevent chafing.

The zipper that closes the vest is made of durable plastic to prevent contact injuries. In addition, it has an interior flap and a top velcro closure to prevent little ones from taking it off and to prevent rubbing.

It is important to mention that there are children with hypersensitive skin or who, due to moving for many hours, may experience some minor irritation. However, the float vest has been designed and manufactured with high-quality materials, specifically chosen to fulfill its purpose and suitable for children's skin and aquatic activity.

Tips for cleaning and caring for the vests

Keep in mind that this product is in contact with children's skin, which is excessively soft and delicate, and conversely, it is also in contact with the most erosive elements such as the sun, chlorine (sometimes a lot, sometimes less depending on the pool), salt, sand, sunscreen... So it needs specific care so your little one can enjoy it for a long time in the best conditions.

• Let it air dry in the shade, away from the sun and other heat sources.
• Do not use bleach, whiteners, a dryer, or an iron.
• Do not dry clean or machine wash.
